Why not do something different in your bathroom redesign? Often when the time comes to pull the trigger on a bathroom renovation, so many clients end up with a standard stock sink from a big box retailer. For example, the same poorly chosen glass vessel sink/dark vanity combo that screams New Construction.
Despite homeowners having more resources at their fingertips, so many still end up going with a sink whose best attribute is it's local stock availability. While I certainly understand the impulse to just have the project done, I'd like to speak to a more considered option.
The photo to the left is one of the most popular bathroom inspiration photos on Houzz. The high back farm sink with the festive colored bottom adds just the right amount of punch to a standard bathroom renovation. Without the high impact farm sink, this bathroom would be pretty ordinary. We've recently begun carrying our own version this antique farm sink in our store at readytore.com. You can see all of our current options by clicking here.
Recently a couple of clients sent in photos of their own farm sink bedecked bathrooms. In the images below you can see how two similar design concepts were executed quite differently by simply changing out the sink.
Notice how both bathrenovations utilize
many of the same elements. The white
subway tile, the same mirror style, even the same black basin exterior. The choice of sink completely changes the entire tone of the room. While the bath on the left has a clean, metropolitan feel, the bath on the right is more classic farmhouse. Both aesthetics work fabulously with very little room for improvement.
What binds all of the examples above together is the homeowner's bravery in pushing outside of the boundaries of traditional bathroom sinks. So many new homes look exactly the same because the exact same fixtures get recycled over and over.
If you're considering a pedestal sink, an oval drop in or (god forbid) a horrid glass vessel sink, stop and consider if that's what would really work best in the space. All of our antique inspired farm sinks are made of cast iron and coated in heavy porcelain enamel. They can generally be shipped same day and arrive at your home within a week. With turnaround that quick, there's really no excuse for a hideous sink.
